Anyway, in all honesty, this is something my wife was - at least at first - completely opposed to. Neverthess, like so many other instances in our life, Mel was eventually able to understand all the keen and rational arguments I made in favor of us starting a blog. Of course by "understand my keen and rational arguments" I really mean "succumbed to my persistent nagging." Thanks for giving in sweetheart.
So, here we are. If all goes well, I hope this place becomes a little spot on the web where everyone can check in and see whats going on in our lives every once in a while. In olden days (as in, like, when we were 10), our families would get together every so often and have a big dinner, usually after church or for somebody's birthday. Even as a kid I remember enjoying sitting around the dinner table and catching up on everyone's lives. Maybe this is a way to recapture that. The good news is that I can actually eat at this dinner table, and not the card table in the corner with Strawberry Shortcake paper plates. Stupid Strawberry shortcake...
This might also serve as a way to stay in touch with friends as we continue to move around. One of the benefits of moving a lot is that you get to meet so many awesome people; of course, its kinda a double edged sword - each move brings new friends, but it means leaving old ones. As many of you know, I recently put my name in a hat to be transferred to Naples, Italy. Things look good, and if things go the way I expect, I should find out tomorrow whether we'll be leaving for Europe in October. At least initially, I thought this little blog might prove useful in keeping everyone up to date on how that process moves along. Ultimately, it might show everyone what life is like for us overseas.
Again, we all know there are good and bad blogs on the web out there. In my mind, the good ones are the ones where only friends and family visit, and if a wayward web-surfer manages to meander through our pages, he or she might leave with a smile on their face. (...especially when they see gorgeous pictures like this one...)

So again, thanks for visiting. To all who come, welcome to the dinner table. Pass the rolls, and enjoy figuring out with us what it means to live Life as a Chockley.

I don't remember the Strawberry Shortcake paper plates but I still have the card table for Ella to eat at when she comes to eat at Grandma's house.....and you can eat at the "big" table now! It was a wonderful time of family fellowship and one I hope you will always remember and carry on as your family grows. I love your website. It's a great idea! My granddaughter is so precious and that picture of her is priceless! I look forward to visiting your site often. Talk with you soon. I love you, son. Mom/Grandma :-)

Phillip, do you have another life as a writer? I truly enjoyed your post. It made me smile. I look forward to reading more in the future.

Thanks, Chockley Family! Strawberry Shortcake still lives here along with all her friends. However, I am still waiting to see you eat real food at a real table! Thanks for helping us keep up with Ella, even in Italy! I know she will teach us what real spaghetti is like in the "home" of the pizza!
Nana
Phil,
You all look great and happy! The baby is so cute. I hope you are well and thanks for including me in the email. Also, nice call on the "bad" blogs, others agree on that one.
Take care and good luck in Napoli!
Whitney
How could you write all that and not expect to be hazed and ridiculed by your best friends. You are a huge dork and we only hang out cause our wives are such good friends, but I'll miss our talks over scotch and cigars, terachockley bar-b-que and comforting each other after a seminole or vol loss (which has been a lot lately). We'll see you in Naples. Brett
You forgot to mention the other negatives of having a blog: junk mail, death threats, being added to Gay Pride e-newsletters, etc. Oh well, these don't seem to bad. Nice blog.
REW (I used initials to avoid these same things)
SO CUTE!!! I miss yall, but this is a good way to keep in touch.
Ginger
hey ya'll!!
glad that there is a way to keep up with ya'll now!
-stephen (my first blog was titled "narcissism fulfilled", so im feelin' you...)
thats also the first time ive ever said or typed "im feelin' you...
Hmmm. Stephen wrote that was the first time he typed "I'm feelin' you", but is it really the first time he's said it??
well, I may not be able to verify whether he's typed or said it before, but I'll never forget the time he actually was feelin' me. Talk about uncomfortable moments...
Phil,
What the crap?! Naples? You have to stay here and run for office - I'm depending on you! My stupid cousin who's a criminal DA is running for State Rep (D) and he's a criminal too! (Aren't they all?)
This site is great - unfortunately Josh and I, being anti-technology, are not releasing any web pages like this one so that some perverted, NAMBLA, child molester can stalk us or our terribly beautiful daughter. Did that scare you? Sorry. That stuff FREAKS me out. I dont trust the Internet...the evil that lies within is mere proof that Al Gore DID invent it.
Keep the good stuff coming - and Ella is gorgeous(you're the father, right?) Teasing! I love this stuff b/c as you know from the continuous stream of snapfish photos I send, we love kids and love hearing about everybody else's. We STILL haven't settled on a name for your new young man - due in September, but we'll release it as soon as I convince Josh to use the one I want as I lay screaming in labor and pain on the delivery table. That's my strategy - I've warned him.
Alaphair is growing like a weed - enjoy the time Ella is IMMOBILE. I never sit down anymore chasing after her. She is the most amazing thing I've ever seen - we love being parents, which is obvious since we're having another one. I love reading your 'proud father' comments. People just can't understand that beautiful miracle until it is pulled out by the head all drippy and slippery and it's placed in your arms (That was supposed to be gross by the way - let's be real - it ain't pretty).
We're builing another house and hope to be moved in by Thanksgiving. Yeah - I'm pretty much going to lose my mind this summer crying hormonally over paint colors and faucet fixtures with a toddler wrapped around my leg on my 37th trip to Lowe's that week. Seriously, we're blessed and very thankful. Josh and I agree on everything, that makes it easy. I'm planning on returning to work in the fall if I can get that serial-killer look out of my eyes from last semester...I love kids - HATE teenagers. I'm thinking of switching to private school. Do you remember Mrs. Adcock? That's me I swear it. Sarcastic as hell and fruitfully evil (She's in real bad shape right now, so say a prayer for her). If anything, teaching has made me a fervent prayer warrior. "Lord, please don't let my child turn out like that." Or better, "God, don't let me be that kind of parent so that my kid comes to school draped in black eye-liner and wrapped in chains with hot pink fish-net pantyhose on her arms in her 8th consecutive day of wearing her Pantera concert T-shirt collection." I've said that one a lot. Could be worse I guess...she could be a thug or worse still...a Democrat.
More news as it comes!
Take care and love to all.
God bless.
Liza,
Josh and Alaphair (and unnamed baby boy)
